Joanne Henry (nee: Landers) “Jody” age 90, of Eden, New York died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family She resided in Eden, New York for the past 59 years. She was born on February 24, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the only child of the Delver H. and Octavia (nee: Greene) Landers. Joanne was a 1944 graduate if Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, IN. She went on to graduate with a BA from the University of Rochester in 1948. She worked for Bobbs-Merrill Publishing Company. Joanne wrote many children’s books under her pen name Joanne Landers Henry. She wrote several children’s books on young American Pioneers which were part of the “Childhood of Famous Americans” seriesJoanne enjoyed reading, sailing, painting and playing the cello. She could be found painting watercolors at the Erie County Botanical Gardens or playing her cello with a trio.

Joanne was the beloved mother of David E. (Cindy) Henry and Katherine E. (Rebecca Pollard) Henry. She cherished her grandsons Andrew and Nathan Henry.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:00AM in the Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 W. Church St. Eden, NY

The Reverend Shirley Chan will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN next to her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eden Library Foundation 2901 E. Church St. Eden, NY or the Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., Buffalo, NY 14218 Words of sympathy may be left on wwwLaingFuneralHome.com
