Mimi, my friend, memory maker of our childhood days, you leave me with thoughts of Eden and you. Roller skates strapped on, we flew up and down the sidewalk connecting our yards. We played school after school until dark. Your hilarious observations made lunch time the highlight of each school day. Your dog, VanGogh, was best friends with my cat. Our moms sent each other funny cards and talked about us over coffee at their kitchen tables. You and I rode all the rides at the Corn Festival until we got older and just wanted the fudge. From your window across the creek, you watched for my bedroom light to go on to start the day. Mimi, you were funny and fun. You inspired me with your faith and bravery and zest for life. You told me that the first thing you would do when you got to heaven was to run and run and run. I am picturing it now. Live in peace, Sweet Friend.
My deepest sympathy to Brad, Winky, John, and Jackie. May your memories comfort and sustain you.

My thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time. I had the privilege of working with Mimi for a number of years. She had a big heart. A very caring person even when she was going through some difficult health issues. Treasure the memories.

Thank you my dear friend for all the laughs and good times we had working together! Your sense of humor was unmatched! I’m a better person for having been in your life. Your strength, your stamina, your belief in God, your kindness for others, your memories of your life, your love of your family and friends, your great style, your fondness for adventure, your passion to do things right, your courage to walk up icy ramps as I would have a melt down worrying you’d fall, your smile, your tilt of your head, close your eyes and smirk and shrug when you were being sassy, I loved it all and miss it dearly! I hope and pray you are some how joined back with your parents, friends and maybe even Van Gogh (pet dog)! As the song says…Until we meet again…you’re always in my thoughts and heart!

I cherish our 55 year friendship. Thanks to my sister Sue and her sister Anita, who were in the same 2nd grade class , I met Mimi when I was 9. Many sleepovers followed in the Smiths Main Street home, barn and camper. The time spent with Mimi, her family and pets (Van Gogh, Two Toes, Marmalade and her kittens) are some of my fondest childhood memories.
As adults she always made time for me when I was in NY visiting family and she would visit with my family in PA. In between visits many letters were exchanged. When driving to Florida to visit my parents I was able to stop at Jekyll Island to spend a few days with Mimi. And the few Camp Winkies I attended in Ohio were alway a great time.
With all those year of memories the one that keeps coming to mind is when she told me she was craving a banana split shortly before diner time and I abandoned the meal I had planned to make her and we went out for banana splits instead. Maybe because she took such delight in skipping a meal in favor of a treat or the fact she never forget it and reminded me of it every time I saw her in the 20 years to follow.
She will always be in my heart. Much love and many hugs to her family and friends. Mary-Jo
Ps.if anyone has the photo of her 10th birthday I would love a copy.
