Obituary of Thomas A. Dexter

In Memory of

Thomas Alan Dexter

1975 - 2025

Thomas Alan Dexter (aka Tom, Dex, Tommy, Dexter, Babe), age 50, passed away following an unexpected work related tragedy on July 30th, 2025. Born on February 24, 1975, in Pompton Plains, NJ he was the son of Richard Alan and Emma Jane (Johnson) Dexter. Tom graduated from Elkland Area High School in 1993 and received his associate’s degree from Penn State with a focus on agriculture. From an early age, Tom developed a deep love for farming, inspired by time spent on the family farm. Proudly owned by both the Johnson and Dexter families. He carried that passion into adulthood, eventually building his own business in WNY, Dexter’s Hoofcare.

Tom married the love of his life, Angie (Elliott) Dexter, on September 6, 2003, sharing an amazing life together. They loved traveling (Florida Keys, Panama City, Gatlinburg, Branson, Acadia National Park, Outer Banks, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, many trips to Maine and the northeast), camping, going to NPK and NHRA races. He was “her person” and she told him she loved him “super tons”. He was one of a kind and just an incredible husband. He knew exactly how to take care of me and gave the best comfort hugs. He would do anything for me, he built a memorial for Katie and Maggie, built me a storage system rack for my she shed, was my personal mechanic. He was just so talented in everything that he did, he could figure out and fix anything.

Tom was a devoted son, always showing up with love, patience, and support for both his mother and father. Known for his quiet strength and selfless heart, he never hesitated to put others before himself. When his father needed him the most, he donated stem cells without a second thought. Whether it was cutting wood to keep his family warm or showing up with a helping hand, he gave his time and energy generously, always thinking of others.

Tom’s love for sports started early, playing baseball, basketball, football, and track as a kid. He continued that passion into adulthood by joining the ESA fast pitch softball family (#44Forever), where he enjoyed both the game and the friendships that it brought. He also had a deep love for the outdoors, being an avid fisherman and hunter. The number of pictures that we have of him fishing and hunting with that big, beautiful smile is insane. These hobbies weren’t just activities; they were part of who he was and how he found joy in everyday life.

Tom is survived by his wife of 21 years, Angela Christine (Elliott) Dexter; parents Richard and Emma Dexter; sister Tanya (Justin) Spillman; nieces and nephews, Shay and Spencer Spillman; Kylee, Brayden, and Aubree Roe; and many beloved family members and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his fur babies Katie and Maggie; Theodore and Elizabeth Dexter; Earl and Madeline Johnson; Godfather Earl Johnson Jr.; several other cherished family members.

Angie would be grateful for anyone who wishes to share stories or memories of Tom, and she kindly asks that you continue to speak his name and keep his spirit alive through the stories he left behind.

Tom's softball jersey will be retired at the Durk Sherman Memorial Complex 193 Legion St., Elkland, PA 16920 on August 23, 2025 at 11:00AM followed by a celebration of Life at the Nelson Community Building, 111 Village Dr. Nelson, PA  16940 at 1:00PM
