So sorry to hear about Fr. Jim's passing at such a young age. I didn't know him personally. We attended his Masses at the Allegany State Park while camping there. It must have been in the 1985-1992 time period when he served as a parochial vicar at the Holy Angels Church in Allegany.
He was so welcoming, always smiling and had a great sense of humor! After our camping, we felt like driving back from Buffalo just to hear him speak!
I will keep his obituary photo, to remind me of his joyful spirit!

To the Family of Father Jim and to the St. Bonaventure Friars:
Sorry to hear about Jim.
He was a friend of mine at St. Bonventure where we both taught.
I would have coffee with him in the morning at the friary.
He was the first one up and made the coffee.
I was not a friar, but he and other friars made me feel welcomed.
He had a good sense of humor.
He was a true friar. Welcoming and humor.
He enjoyed each day as a blessing.
I will miss him.
God Bless
Terry Moran

Louise and Vinny, so sorry for your loss. Fr James ( who will always be Jimmy to me and my classmates from ICS Class of 1968). I have so many fond memories throughout the years. He always said how much he enjoyed his visits back to Wny to visit with your family. He was so gracious to accept my request to celebrate my Mother’s funeral Mass in early 2020. I will always be grateful for that.
He was a gift to this world and he shared those gifts with so many. He is certainly singing with Angels in Heaven. Fondly, Suzy

Vince and Louise I am so sorry for your loss. I went to Bonas with your brother, we lived on the same floor and we graduated the same year and we became good friends. I last I saw him was when my wife and I went to visit him up in Wisconsin this past summer. In fact my wife made him a quilt and gave it to him on our visit. He made an awesome pasta dinner from an old recipe he loved for us. My last contact was an email he send me the day before he died talking about coming down to Chicago where we live to visit and break up his trip on his way back to come see you and your family. I knew him well and I have read comments people have written about him from all the places he served the Lord. Your brother spoke of you and your family with great love. He was and now is a Saint, as one defines Sainthood. God Bless you and your family, you have another Guardian Angel protecting you.

Father Jim confirmed me in the Catholic Franciscan faith. His sermons were purposely hilarious to keep teenagers engaged in the faith. I'm going to miss messaging him on Facebook, but for those of us who knew him, his soul will always be around us. I take comfort in knowing you're exactly where you want to be in God's arms. Your physical body can rest in peace knowing you did what God called you to do on Earth with Grace and dignity.
