Obituary of Lois G. Cavanagh

Lois G. Cavanagh, 1926-2026, formerly from Eden and Hamburg, New York passed away on
March 19, 2026. She was born in Buffalo to Frank and Clara Gayton. She was a long time
member of Hamburg Presbyterian Church. Lois worked as an art teacher and later as a special
education teacher for Eric County BOCES #2. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees from SUNY Buffalo State (State Teacher’s College when she attended the school). She
loved traveling with her husband Dave to Europe and much of the United States and Canada.
Lois was an avid quilter and gardener and she loved to read. She is predeceased by her
husband, David Cavanagh and her son David Cavanagh, PhD., and her beloved beagle, Casey.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Cavanagh of Kenmore; Wende (Steve) Janas of Fulton,
NY; three grandchildren, Adam (Stephanie) Janas, Elisha Janas, Ben Janas and two great-
grandchildren, Ethan and Olivia Janas.
Services will be private.
Donations in Lois’ memory can be made to the SPCA of Erie County and the Hamburg
Presbyterian Church.
