Evangeline S. Anderson (nee: Smutz), age 89, of Eden, New York, died Monday, January 18, 2016. She was born September 28, 1926 in her Eden, New York residence. She was the only child of the late Leslie and Elizabeth Smutz. She married her husband of 63 year; James L. Anderson, who died February 7, 2014. After receiving her Master’s degree Evangeline taught at several places until she became a fifth grade English Teacher for the Eden Central School for 25 years. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association, the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Angola, NY. She was a former member of the Eden Historical Society and the Eden Garden Club. She was the devoted wife of late James L. Anderson, the loving mother of James (Susan) Anderson. Grandmother of Erick (Karen) Anderson, Brian Anderson, Bethany (Jon) Gabel and Jeffrey Anderson; great grandmother of Bailey and Madalyn Gabel. Family invites friends to call Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 1:00PM-3:00PM followed by a funeral service at the Laing Funeral Home Inc., 2724 W. Church St. Eden. A private interment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Eden. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to Eden Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 111, Eden, NY.
