Obituary of Jean S. Shaughnessy-Behrns

Jean S. Shaughnessy-Berhns, a longtime resident of Hamburg, died Sunday in Fox Run Orchard Park. She died one day shy of her 107th birthday.
She graduated from St. Lawrence High School, and later graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in teaching.
Originally an assistant at the Hamburg, Lakeshore, and Blasdell libraries, Mrs. Shaughnessy-Berhns returned to school and received a master’s degree in library science from SUNY Geneseo.
She returned to the Hamburg library, where she was the librarian for 16 years.
Mrs. Shaughnessy-Berhns was an avid reader, and also enjoyed travel.
Predeceased by her husbands Harold Shaughnessy and Jack Berhns, she is survived by two sons, Peter and John; two daughters, Susan Smith and Martha Birney; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 13. 2016 at 11:00AM in Hillcrest Cemetery, 5223 Abbott Road, Hamburg, NY.
