Dear Karen, Christina and Family,
I will always remember the great times we had with the Explorer post. Russ can be proud of all the students he taught in ROTC and the Exploreres. He was a great Mentor for so many kids and always gave more than 100% to everything he did for these kids. I know he is now watching over Patti as she patrols North Carolina as a Deputy Sheriff, (he taught her well) All our love, The Lemke Family.

Russ "Moose"--one of the best ever--grew up with him and his family in Kenmore--playing baseball at Mang Park everyday. He would smash the ball over the tennis courts with his big 36 inch bat. So many good times with him and Peter and his whole family--thank you Russ

To the family: I was told once that teachers was the most unrewarding proffesion becasue you never got to see the fruits of your labor. MSG Scanio, as i knew him, at South Park was so influential, not only in my own life, but countless others in the JROTC program. He left his mark on many of us. He truly cared about his students. After enlisting in the militray after high school i went back to school for years to visit him. I was fortunate enough that he was my mentor in the expolres program as well, where he continues his work iuding kids. He truley was a great spirit and will be missed. My condolences to the family!

Dear Karen Christina, Mother Scanio, Peter, and Larry. Marcia and I were so sad to hear of the passsing of our brother Russell. As comrades Russell and I shared many triumpths as well as dissapointments. Those dissapontments were made easier to take with Russ around. His ability to ease the tension was a welcomed comfort. He was a special human being and I will miss his wit and humor. My only regret is that we did not learn of his passing in time to extend our respect and farewell. We will dedicate a rosary in his memory. As for his family there are never going to be words to express your loss. However know that you will also be in our prayers. To Russell "Good Bye old freind, and stand tall Master Sergeant! You have done yourself ,your family, and your community proud. We'll miss you.......Love and prayers Ange and Marcia.

I will always remember Russ as a mentor and friend. I will always be grateful for him hiring me to work with him at the MEPS in 1980. I don't know that my life would be the same or I would have been as successful had it not been for his guidance and support. Listening to conversations between him and Mike shaped many of my goals and current beliefs. My fondest memory is of us listening to "Taylor & Moore" in the mornings and laughing our butts off in the office. He had a great sense of humor. It is my honor to have known him.
