A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 14th at Immaculate Conception Church at 11:00AM for John Almendinger, 85, of Eden, who died on Monday, September 9, 2013. He was survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Sherry) Almendinger; son John Almendinger Jr., daughter's Julie (Carl) Allen Otis, Suzanne (David) Krycia, Lisa Almendinger Summar, Annie (Nelson) Sheehan, and Jill Ann (Peter) Brydges; brother of Dick, Robert, sister Marjorie Crocoll; grandchildren Bradley Summar, Jacqueline (Gene) Partridge, Emily Allen, Gregory (Michelle) Summar, Stefany Almendinger, Eric (Margaret) Krycia, Claire Otis, Ryan Sheehan, Amelia Summar, Eden Brydges and Carl (Sarah) Otis; great-grandchildren James Otis, Emma Partridge, Owen Krycia; many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. Born on June 10, 1928 in Titusville, PA, to the late Adrian and Alice (Boyle) Almendinger. After graduation from Angola high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served until 1948. Upon his return he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Sherry, in January of 1951. They spent 55 years raising six children in the town of Eden. After attending UB, Jack built homes in the Hamburg and Angola area with his father before beginning a long career in Management at the Ford Stamping Plant. In retirement he wintered in Naples, FL where he enjoyed golfing and entertaining family. Jack along with his hometown friends was a founding member of the Lakeview Baseball Association, raising the funds to build the first public hardball field Lakeview, NY. He served on the first Immaculate Conception Home School Association Board. He was also a past member of the ICC Holy Name Society. He enjoyed fishing on 18 mile creek, camping and was an avid nature lover, planting hundreds of trees at his homestead where he took pleasure in watching and feeding the birds outside his large picture windows. Most of all he was devoted to his childhood sweetheart of 73 years, children and grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul at Immaculate Conception Church or Life Transitions Center, formerly Gilda's Club, of Buffalo, NY.
