Obituary of Leo Michael Spengler

Leo M. Spengler, age 89, of Eden, New York died unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. He was born February 27, 1924, the son of the late Martin and Mary Spengler. He was a World War II Veteran. Serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Invasion of Normandy. He then married his loving wife of 66 years, Maxine B. Gronkowski, in Buffalo, NY on August 23, 1947. He was a member of the Eden VFW Memorial Post 8625, the Disabled American Veterans #135 and was a V.A.V.S. for the Veterans Hospital. He had 1,426 hours of service to our Nation's Veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs Volunteer Program. He was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross. He received a Gold Medal from the President of France for their Freedom. He was the devoted husband of Maxine B. (Gronkowski), loving brother of Lester (late Eleanor) Spengler, Joan (late Charles) Warner, Jean (Richard) Jensen, Patricia(late Robert) Langless, late Martin (late Norma) Spengler, late Mary (late Sylvester) Bauer and late Norman Spengler. Brother-in-law of Margaret Spengler. Godfather of two. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, Eden. Burial will be held in the Bath National Cemetery with full military honors.
