Obituary of John W Powley

John W. Powley, Sr., age 83, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 20, 1931 in Altoona, PA. He was the son of the late John H. and Lillian (Free) Powley. He proudly served his country in the United Stated Army from 1952 to 1954. He married his devoted wife, the late Lillian Frank. John was a member of the American Legion Post 880, the V.F.W. Post 8625 and the NRA.
He enjoyed his many trips to the library, hunting, fishing and farming. He was a train enthusiast. He was a Master Gardner. He was so in tune with nature that animals would come right to him. He also had a way with babies; he could have a crying baby asleep in just moments.
His children will remember him as the “Best Dad Ever!”
He is predeceased by his parents and his wife Lillian (Free) Powley.
He is survived by his children; John (Jody) Powley, Linda (Eric) Samuelson, Sandra (Joan Harrington) Powley, Teresa (John Temple) Powley, Mary Beth (Russell) Preischel and Daniel Powley. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother K. Pete Powley and was the brother in law of James (Kate) Smith.
Family invites friends to call at the Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 West Church Street Eden, NY on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm,
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 10:00am at the funeral home.
Flowers are accepted. Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo.
