David H. McCarron, 88, of Fredonia, New York and formerly of Galena, IL and Dubuque, IA died Sunday, June 27, 2010 in the hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, IL and where friends may gather after 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery where military honors will be accorded graveside. Friends may gather Monday, July 5, 2010 from 4 to 7 pm at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Cremation rites have been accorded. He was born on February 4, 1922 in Galena, the son of Howard and Ethel (Eulberg) McCarron. He married Dolores M. Welbes at St. Lawrence O'Tooles Roman Catholic Church in Laramie, Wyoming on September 20, 1948. He graduated from Galena High School in 1940 and then went on to Iowa State University where he graduated in 1948. He entered military service with the United States Navy Seabees from December 1942 until December 1945. He served in the South Pacific and Iwo Jima. After graduating from Iowa State University, he served five years in the United States Forest Service in Wyoming and Colorado as District Ranger. After returning to Dubuque, Iowa he was employed by the Dubuque Packing Company as Quality Control Manager. He worked for that company for 29 years, retiring in 1982. Surviving are three daughters, Madeline Kisting, Ann Burns, Sheila (Dominic) Saraceno and one granddaughter, Madeline McCarron Burns. His loving wife, Dolores preceded him.
