Richard A. Richter, 85, of Eden, NY, died July 6, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born on
January 20, 1925 in Buffalo, NY- the son of Clyde and Winifred (Green). He was married for 63 years to wife Delores R. (Darbee).
A WWII veteran, having enlisted in the Navy in 1942, Richard was aboard a Patrol Craft during the first wave of the Normandy Invasion, on D-Day- June 6, 1944. He reached the rank of quartermaster 2nd class. He designed and executed the Veteran's monument that stands in the Field of Honor at Eden Evergreen Cemetery.
In his youth, he rowed for the West Side Rowing Club and was a member of the 1941 National Championship Crew. A graphic artist by trade, Richard co-started and owned Tri-Graphics, Inc. in Buffalo in 1957.
Active in his community, Richard was past president of American Legion Post 880, a Boy Scout leader, and was head usher at Immaculate Conception Church in Eden for 60+ years.
Mr. Richter was also a talented craftsman who loved to work with wood. He had a special love for his dogs, and they were a familiar sight on Main St. in Eden.
He is survived by his wife, a son Steve Richter, two daughters; Deborah (David Sears) Richter, and Allison (John) Cardarelli, a daughter-in-law, Janet Richter, two grandchildren: Zachary (Amanda)
Amigone and Julia Richter, AFS dad to Eva Koening Olsen and Joao Paulo Girbal. Also surviving is his brother Clyde (Evelyn) Richter and a nephew Glenn (Joanne) Richter. Predeceased by his son Geoff Richter.
A Mass of Christion Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, with military honors.
No prior visitation. Flowers gratefully declined.
