August D. Eichler "J.R." age 81, of East Eden, NY died July 18, 2010. He was born July 12, 1929, the son of August D. and Mary A. (Maym) Eichler.
J.R. was the owner of the East Eden Tavern for 30 years. He was featured in the book "Small Town America" by David Plowden. He was known for his sense of humor and his quick come backs. He had a special love for his dog, Abby, whom he leaves behind. J.R. was a member of the Eden American Legion Post # 880.He also was a fireman with the East Eden Fire Department. He enjoyed the baseball team that he sponsored through the East Eden Tavern.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his two sisters; Joyce Marie Eichler and Melva Lee (Germain) Salzler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who knew him as "Uncle Jr."
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, East Eden, NY on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10:00AM,
