Robert G. Swantek, 65 of Derby, NY, formerly of Eden, NY, died July 27, 2010 unexpectedly in Lake Shore Hospital. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Edward R. and Mary Eileen (Austin) Swantek. Mr. Swantek grew up in Collins Center and attended high school in Springville, NY. An avid baseball player, he tried out for the New York Yankees, but, not wanting to miss work he missed his last try-out for the team. Mr. Swantek also enjoyed football. Defiant in his love for the Miami Dolphins, he took up a friendly rivalry with his neighbors, dancing in uniform in their yards after a victory over the Bills. He was giving and genuine, always putting others before himself. He was a member of the Eden Police Reserves and he served as both a court bailiff and dispatcher for the Department. He was also part of the Eden Emergency Squad. He met, proposed to and married his loving wife of 22 years, April Springer, at the Eden Meeting Place. Besides his loving wife he is survived by his children; Robert (Kate) Swantek, Jr., William Swantek, Terry Swantek, Richard Swantek, Bobbie-Jo Swantek, James R. Rubeck and Dr. Tracie L. Rubeck. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two brothers-Edward and Lawrence Swantek. Family and friends are invited to call at the Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 W. Church St., Eden, NY on Monday, August 2, 2010 from 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM. A military graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Eden NY on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 10:00AM.
