Obituary of Dorothy P. Mackey

Dorothy Perry Mackey was taken by the Lord on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Autumn View Heathcare Facility in Hamburg, NY. The daughter of James H. and Emma E. (Kuhl) Abbott, Dorothy was born December 21, 1921 in White Horse, NJ. Her family moved to Hamburg, NY where she graduated from Hamburg High School in June of 1940. Dorothy married James T. Mackey, Jr. on August 17, 1940 in North Collins, NY and they purchased their home in Eden in 1948, where Dorothy resided nearly 69 years. Dorothy was proud of her work in the lab at the O & C Canning Factory in Eden and in the Virus Labat the University of Buffalo from where she retired. Dorothy raised violets for many years, and went fishing with her husband. They loved going to their cabin in Conewango, NY and taking trips to their place in Florida. Dorothy loved her church, participating in the Rummage Sale, selling Cutco knives and knitting booties for new-born church members. She attended Seniors in Eden taking many of her beautiful plants to be given away as prizes. Dorothy is survived by her two sons, James (Michelle) Mackey III, Michael (Diana) Mackey; her beloved grandson Dale (Julie) Mackey; granddaughters Katie (Rick) Stone, Milissa (Sean) Lewis, Teri Singleton, Nancy (Carrie) Ringler, Linda Mackey. Leslee(Baric) Marsh and Rena Jarrard; her much loved greatgrandson, Tyler (Tori Weber) Mackey, great grand-daughters Kylee Crossman, Alexandra Mohon, Amelia Stone, Maggie Stone, Jessica Jarrard and Trina (Jeremy) Mettler, as well as one great-great grand-daughter and three great-great-grandsons. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Laing Funeral Home Inc, 2724 W. Church St Eden, NY followed by a short reception at the Eden United Methodist Church.
