Obituary of John H. Tarnish

John Harold Tarnish

November 15, 1947- June 10, 2019

John H. Tarnish died at home on June 10th surrounded by his family.  

He was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Daisy Finch and Harold Tarnish and was a life-long resident of Hamburg, NY.   John was a 1965 graduate of Frontier Central High School and has degrees from ECC and Buffalo State College. He worked for his uncles at Finch Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning.  John also worked for Gruber Supply before becoming a business teacher at Frontier Central High School. He was a teacher for many, many years. John served on the Traffic Safety Committee for the Town of Hamburg and enjoyed working the gates at the Erie County Fair.  

John is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Army from 1967  to 1973,

In his free time you would find him cheering at the Buffalo Bisons games or camping in his RV.  He enjoyed collecting and running ‘O’ gauge trains.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine B. Tarnish, his children Steven (Tami) and Marlene Grunder (Bob); grandchildren Nathan and Kailyn Tarnish, Robert and Allison Grunder.  

Visitation at Laing Funeral Home, 2724 W. Church, Eden, NY on June 14th from 1-5pm.
