I was so sorry to hear about Rodney’s passing. I have known Rodney all my life and we all went to school together. I have known Rodney to be a very special person, always willing to help and was so grateful he did my Mom’s funeral. Many prayers to his family. Marianne Smart

I am deeply saddened at Pastor Rodney’s passing. He was very encouraging to me when I served near him in Randolph. I have learned from his experience, received peace from his perspective, and been rewarded to pray with him and feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. May his family know peace in these trying times. -Pastor Ray Gilman

Rodney, at the beginning of his pastoral career, shared two years with me as a colleague and friend. I deeply appreciate the times we ministered together with the people of Akron United Methodist Church. There were many times of planning meaningful worship services and worshipping together. Each enabled both of us to grow in our faith and in our respect for each other.
It was also a time when our families could share together in conversation, laughter and in celebrations. Each contributed to a deep friendship which only strengthened our times of sharing. Illnesses, graduations, weddings and times of change made us shareholders in each others' lives.
In gratitude for all that has been, we give our thanks to God for Rodney and his family. We pray they will each experience God's comfort, peace, and love surrounding them. May they know the love and prayers of their friends are with them.

Rodney shared with me one of the most special messages ever...He was so good to my sisters husband Jerry Cole when he was dying of stomach cancer. my son and i went to sit with Jerry the night before he died. on our way there we stopped for hamburgers and french fries and of course vinegar on the fries..during the night Jerry wanted water several times and told me how sweet the vinegar left on my fingers as i handed him the water was...Rodney said Vinegar is bitter as our sins are bitter to Christ. God and the Holy spirit The bitterness of our sins was consumed by Christ and he then gave up his Spirit to God. The price for our sins are now covered. The vinegar is now sweet as wine. Just as our sins are bitter to God they are forgiven because of Christ' life, death and resurrection our sins are forgiven AND WE CAN ONCE AGAIN HAVE A SWEET RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
THESE ARE RODNEYS WORDS TO ME IN AN EMAIL FROM APRIL OF 2017 Thank you Rodney for these special words and for your bringing Jerry to Jesus days before he passed on to his Heavenly home.

Pastor Rodney was very kind to me when I received a devastating phone call about a friend's son. I was just leaving the church when I received this call. He saw my face, walked back from the altar, and prayed with me instantly. He was a warm, caring individual who was a blessing to me and our Laona Church family.

My sincere condolences on the loss of Rodney. I remember him fondly as a student in one of my first years of teaching. What a remarkable man to have touched the lives of so many in his Godly profession. 64 is too young.

I am in shock over the loss of such a wonderful friend...encourager...holy man...carpenter. I began my ministry by walking in his footsteps...IFUMC ...the Alabama house...Akron First UMC. His influence will last upon me always. May God bless each and every family member, colleague, and friend. I suspect he is now having a lovely conversation with the Big Guy (well Him, too but I was talking about Pastor Ken.)
My prayers are with you.

Rodney was a gentle soul who followed our precious Savior and wanted to help others to come to know Jesus as well. Although we know he has joined the church triumphant, he will be missed as a dear friend to both Randy and myself. We enjoyed the many Rodney would sit with Randy as I preached or come to visit with me at the church. Trish, may God give you and your family comfort and strength for the days ahead.
