Obituary of William J. Hill

Hill of Eden NY passed away peacefully on April 12 at Wyoming County Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility where he had been living since April 2019. He was 91 years old. Born in Buffalo NY, he was the son of Chester and Jessie Hill. Bill graduated from East High School, and the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy in 1953. He married (the late) A. Betty Berkoudt in 1952; and together they moved to Eden where they had their home on Roswell Parkway for over 60 years. Bill worked as a registered pharmacist for 69 years; and was the long-time owner of Eden Pharmacy. Bill retired in 1990 after selling his business to Fays Drug Inc. A Korean War veteran, Bill and A. Betty lived in Aurora CO for two years while he worked as a pharmacist at the Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver. He dispensed medicine to President Dwight D. Eisenhower while he was a patient there. Bill was a long-time member of the Eden United Methodist Church, and served on mumerous boards and committees. He was a member and former president of the Eden Chamber of Commerce. Bill was also a member of the Pharmacists Association of Western NY; the Pharmaceutical Society of the State of NY; and a member of the National Community Pharmacists Association. He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia A. (Dennis) Elbow of Warsaw NY, Susan L. (Mark) Miller of Syracuse NY, and son John W. Hill of Hamburg NY. Memories of their grandfather will continue through his grandson Adam Hill Miller of Syracuse NY, and also granddaughter Lindsay D. (Eric) Klaben of Marcellus NY. Great Grandpa Bill was thrilled to also welcome a great grandson-- Everett Henry Klaben-- into this world in 2019. Bill is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, his Eden United Methodist Church family, and countless friends throughout his 91 years. A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for Saturday 4/24/21 at 11AM at the Eden United Methodist Church 2820 E. Church St Eden NY.
