Obituary of Dorothy J. Sandy

Dorothy J. Sandy, age 84, of North Boston, New York died unexpectedly on Tuesday Feb 22, 2022. She was born on Feb 5th, 1938 and grew up in South Buffalo. Dorothy was the daughter of the late John and Ida (nee: Dunn) Hilton and sister of John H. Hilton. She graduated from South Park High School and then studied business and secretarial skills at Bryant and Stratton where she received awards for her speed and accuracy. Dorothy went on to enjoy a successful career working for the Town of Eden and later for the Erie County Legislature and in the Erie County Executive’s office. Dorothy married her beloved husband Robert N. Sandy in 1957. They shared 61 wonderful years of marriage together before Bob’s passing in 2018. Dorothy now leaves behind sons Charles N. (Mie) Sandy and Robert H. (Susan) Sandy; her grandchildren Rei, Kai, Stephen, and Eric; her great granddaughter Olivia; and many nephews and nieces. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who treasured her family. Dorothy created a home full of warmth in which everyone felt welcomed and loved. She will be remembered for her compassion, empathy, inner strength, and deep faith. Dorothy loved the Lord and was active in the church throughout her life. She firmly believed that God sends miracles all the time though we might not recognize them as miracles until we look back. She also firmly believed in the power of prayer. She was up early each morning doing her devotions, prayed at least twice a day for those "in need of a healing touch" and lived her faith with everyone she met. When friends were down or unwell, Dorothy was quick to send a card or make a phone call. Often she sent cards just to brighten someone’s day. She was always full of encouragement, and a good friend to many who will miss her gentle manner and faith-filled walk through this world. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 4-7 pm at the Laing Funeral Home Inc, 2724 W. Church St., Eden. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 10 AM in the Orchard Park Wesleyan Church, 7295 Ellicott Rd, Orchard Park. Flowers gratefully declined.
