Please share a memory of Suzanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Suzanne (Suzie) Spraker was born in Cheektowaga, NY on July 27, 1940 and passed away in Buffalo, NY on March 12, 2011. Suzie was how she was best known. She was married to Eddie for 46 years and shared most of those years in Cheektowaga, NY. In 2002, when Eddie retired, they joined their daughter, Donna, and her family by escaping the cold weather and moving to New Port Richie, FL. While in Florida, they made numerous friends and took advantage of the opportunities to go fishing and enjoy the oceanfront. It was there that in 2004 Suzie lost her loving husband to cancer. After his passing, Suzie came back to Western New York to reconnect with her other children who remained in the area. Suzie continued to live independently in her apartment in Eden enjoying the company of many old & new friends. While back in Eden, she cannot just sit silently on the sidelines. It was in 2009 that she became an entrepreneur and opened her own used bookstore in Eden, called Suzie's Book Nook. She had it all figured out - come and sit, read a book, try to put a puzzle piece in the puzzle but most of all, come and enjoy the conversation of others. The one thing Suzie knew how to do is to have great conversation and create laughter through her many stories. This was a great new adventure for her and she enjoyed every moment of it. It was not until she developed Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma early in 2010 that this dream had to take a back burner to her health. As everyone who knew her would contest, she was not going to let this illness take her easily. She endured chemotherapy and did successfully go into remission for this illness. In late 2010, she was subsequently diagnosed with early stage 1 of lung cancer. Still interested in continuing her journey, she had a successful surgery to remove the tumor. It was not until suddenly in February, she became ill and was once again diagnosed with cancer. We were all fortunate that she had only experienced limited discomfort until it took her from us. Suzie is survived by Diana (Jerry) Stevenson, Donna (Mark) Cummings, Debbie (John) Popple and Ed Spraker. Suzie is also survived by five grandchildren, Kelly Cummings, Jillian Cummings, John Popple, Emily Popple and Amanda Popple. Suzie is also survived by her brother, Robert (Sandra) Schmitter. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at Laing Funeral Home, Inc. at 2724 W. Church Street in Eden, NY. Memorial Mass Thursday 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Eden. If there was more known about cancer both the lives of Suzie and Ed, may have been extended. Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society.
