Obituary of James Raymond Miller

MILLER- James Raymond, age 86, of Eden, NY; November 10, 2023. Devoted husband of late Joanne (Smith), loving father of Cindi (Gary) Renaldo, Yvonne (late Nick) Downes, Kate Miller and Mark (Kim) Miller. Survived by seven grandchildren and a bevy of great grandchildren. Brother of Connie (Ferris) Newton Randall, late Calvin (Betty), Robert (Ann), Earl (Virginia) Miller, and Shirley (Leo) Dumont. Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. With the exception of two years military service in South Korea, James was a lifelong resident of Western New York. He made his living on the railroad, first as a brakeman and later as a conductor, but his greatest love was for his family and his home, which he dubbed “the Island.” He devoted most of his free time to the life of a gentleman farmer, raising crops and livestock, chopping firewood, and remodeling the old farmhouse where he was born. His major wintertime passions included cheering on the Buffalo Bills, monitoring the national political scene, and sharpening his wits with Jeopardy. A final accomplishment that few can claim: James went to his reward in the same bed, in the same room, in the same house where he had been born almost 87 years earlier. Visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4PM & 7-9PM at the Laing Funeral Home Inc., 2724 W. Church St. Eden, NY.
