Steve was a dedicated , motivated employee of the NYS Thruway .
I worked with him at Henrietta maintenance when he was a TMW. Then when he traveled back towards home . He became a supervisor at Henrietta as well years later .
The short years I worked with Steve were good years .
My condolences to the family .

Balinde, Joel, Brett, Families & Friends,
Our 3 hearts from Vermont send you our deepest condolences given this unimaginable and colossal loss. No words can often convey...however, I will attempt some.
Our times together have spanned over 30 years and to Joe you were his brother, with many more.
Often the fan favorite at all the parties I hosted in the northtowns ...The mystery man from Eden, in the Australian drover coat.
'Tis been said when God is pleased, we are called home. It is clear that he died in the "Line of Duty". Steve was always really good about being there for others; and he still is. It feels likely that without permission, his skills were summoned for the other side.
Our Native American friends offer, "May there never be an end, rather a change of worlds." Perhaps undoubtedly a trite thought right now; one day may peace reign in your hearts, all knowing.

"Death Is Nothing At All"
[By: Hendy Scott Holland, written in 1910]
Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room. I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner.
All is well.

Steve sat at the desk next to mine for a couple of years as he waited for the transfer that would get him closer to home. We talked about our families - especially his beloved Belindie and their sons Joel and Brett. He was so proud of all of you! We enjoyed soup days and everyday holidays and looking out our window at beautiful sunrises.
Just last week, Steve and I shared pictures of the amazing sunrise from our parts of the Thruway.
Every sunrise I see will remind me of Steve and I will smile and be happy that he was my friend.

Steve was a life time friend, you know the first core of friends and their families you grew up with. We were little guys playing little loop football together in 1973. And have been friends ever since. He was always genuine and a good guy you wanted to be around. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Steve, you will be sadly missed.
