My first memory of Aunt Donna was of her giving my sister and me the biggest tin of gummy bears we had ever seen!
Most of my memories of Aunt Donna involve really good soups and piles of homemade cookies! I loved the few times I stayed at her house. The beds were the most comfortable anywhere (the sheets and blankets all ironed and starched) and it felt like sleeping at a five star hotel!
There are traces of Aunt Donna all over my own home now, because she always gave me something pretty to take home when I would visit. She could make any space remarkably beautiful. I have always admired her talent for creating beauty and order and over the years have striven to imitate her ways in my own home.
I will miss her stories of family and neighbors from her days on Grand Island and her ability to recall names and places with deliberate precision. She valued the old things, family histories, and the preservation of loving memories of times and people long past.

Some of the greatest memories I have of my sister, Donna, were snow sledding at the Grand Island bridge. She always made sure I didn’t get run over. She and Dave would pick me up in his 1955 Ford convertible playing Fatz Dominoe’s Blueberry Hill as loud as it would go. Then they’d stop at the Clown House and buy me an ice cream cone. Swimming with her at Uncle Bob’s was always a big event. Uncle Bill would pull us behind his jeep and Donna would teach me how to stay on the ice and not the asphalt. She even took me to Lime Lake with the Girl Scouts and I was the only boy there. Did I ever get spoiled that week!
But the greatest blessing she ever gave me was being saved through the blood of Jesus. We will rejoice again in that Kingdom that’s built four square! Thank you for loving me and caring for me! I love you Big Sister and miss you greatly! To God be the glory great things he has done!

Donna Mesmer was an extraordinary person. Truly one of a kind! She was way more than my mother in law, first she was my friend. She welcomed me into her home, her family and her heart. I have so many memories and so many pictures, it’s hard to choose one to share. Donna told me that in the end we are left with our memories. Donna, I am forever grateful for all of the ones I shared with you my dear friend. All my love, Bigbird

A fond memory of our beautiful Donna.
We were neighbors growing up on the West River, Grand Island during our very young years.
Donna had the most awesome toys, especially dolls.
I just love going there and the two of us would play with the dolls for hours. Paper dolls too of course.
We moved, we both married, had families. One day we sat together at a base ball game where our sons were playing. After that reconnect, we spoke a lot on telephone. I went to her first born baby shower at her home. Later they moved and we lost contact again. See You soon in HEAVEN, Donna. my prayers are lifted up for her husband and all the family.
in Christ, faye ehde valone

Is grandma dee was the only one that made washing dishes fun. I also learned my first bible verse from memory when I attended vacation bible school with her John 3:16. There's never enough time to show someone how much you love them. That's why I'm grateful for eternity.

Mrs Mesmer was a
2nd mom to me. Any time I came over she always made me feel welcomed. She treated me like another daughter.
She was always in the kitchen. When I would come over she would sit with Kim and I and talk and give us advice. Her favorite advice she gave me, “To get a man, bake an apple pie!” She even babysat my boys for me from time to time. I am so thankful for the impact she had on my life.
