Obituary of Clyde C. Colvin

Clyde C. Colvin, a former Eden fire chief and Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. line supervisor, died Saturday (May 7) in Buffalo GeneralHospital. He was 68.
Born in Buffalo, he was raised in Collins and Eden, graduating in 1961 from Eden Central High School.
After graduation, Mr. Colvin served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, stationed in South Korea and Germany.
After his discharge from the service, he began working for Niagara Mohawk - first starting as a meter reader and then serving in many positions, including lineman, spanning his 40-year career. At the time of his retirement in 2004, Mr. Colvin was a line supervisor.
Family members noted his deep commitment to his job, with him often working extra hours on Sundays.
He married the former Cheryl J. Laing of Eden on May 7, 1966.
Mr. Colvin also was very dedicated to the Eden Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, serving in the fire department for 45 years in various capacities, including its chief from 1981 to 1983. An active member since he joined the department in 1966, he also served as its president, trustee and was a life member. He was a safety officer at the time of his death.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he also drove ambulance for the former Laing's Ambulance Service in Eden.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved spending time at his summer cottage on Chautauqua Lake and boating there. Close with his family, and particularly close with his granddaughter, Maddison, whom he babysat regularly.
Mr.Colvin was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Eden.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his sons, Christopher C. and Matthew S. (Lisa), grandchildren, Maddison Colvin, Christopher and Kaitlyn, brother-in-law to Richard (Nora) Laing Jr. and Denise Buehler, loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Almer A. and Bernice (Conrad) Colvin and his sister Patricia Zittel.
The family invites friends to call Monday, May 9, 2011 from 7PM-9PM and Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 2PM-4PM & 7PM-9PM at the Laing Funeral Home Inc 2724 W. Church St. Eden. NY.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3487 N. Boston Road, Eden. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
